Action packed holidays in Montenegro!

Posted By Explore Montenegro on 08/07/2013

Montenegro’s beautiful landscape of mountains, coupled with the Adriatic coastline, provides visitors with plenty of scenic eye candy. It also provides a natural theme park of adventures for tourists of all ages and fitness levels to take part in.

Montenegro translates as ‘the Black Mountains’ and it is a country certainly characterised by its dramatic terrain, which offers both summer and winter activities such as hiking and snow sports. Head to one of the many lakes, or the coast, and you will find an abundance of water sports from fast paced jet skiing and white water rafting at Tara Canyon to more leisurely kayaking around Kotor Bay.

Montenegro holidays are perfect for those who like to combine action and relaxation, and wish to explore a country from new heights and angles.

Here are a pick of great activities to take part in:

Kayaking on Lake Skadar

Kayaking is the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful scenery and the peaceful ambience of the largest lake in the Balkan Peninsula. Explore Montenegro offer a lunch and kayaking tour starting in Virpazar where visitors can bird spot, take a dip in the lake to cool down and see the ancient fortress of Grmozur, known as the Montenegrin Alcatraz. Guests will then harbour on a fresh water beach for a spot of relaxation, sunbathing and a lunch of fresh fish and local wine.

Montenegrin Hiking tours

When not in a kayak, visitors can explore the landscape on foot and go on a hike, Famous Five style. Explore Montenegro offer four hiking tours, the Lake Skadar Waterfall Hike, Orijen Mountain Hike, Vrmac Ridge Walk and Obod Caves and Pool Hike which are all led by local guides enabling guests to discover hidden places along the way (and not get lost!)

White water rafting at Tara Canyon

Tara Canyon is one of the world’s deepest canyons and should definitely be on a tourist’s checklist in Montenegro.  During summer, Tara River is a lot tamer and therefore suitable for novice rafters and a guide is always present to ensure maximum safety. Explore Montenegro will take rafters along 18 km of river with breaks for swimming followed by a lunch of local cuisine.

Waterskiing and wakeboarding in Kotor Bay

For fast paced water sports, Kotor Bay’s calm and sheltered waters provide the perfect conditions for waterskiing and wakeboarding. Explore Montenegro offer a water sports package which includes a boat for up to 8 people, a skipper, fuel and equipment.
